I write fiction in Kannada. Six books of my own so far — short stories, a novel,
and a couple of attempts at explaining machines to people who would rather be
reading something else — and one translation.
Every fortnight I write TechPost, a column in ವಿಜಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ,
mostly about what artificial intelligence is quietly doing to the rest of us.
The rest of the week I am an engineer at IBM in Bengaluru. Some of that leaks
into small Kannada tools, which are here for
anyone who wants them.
ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರ್ ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಕುರಿತು ಬರೆಯುವವರು ಇದ್ದಾರಾದರೂ, ಕತೆಗಾರರೊಬ್ಬರು ಬರೆಯುವುದು ಅಪರೂಪ. ಆ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದ ಈ ಕೃತಿಯ ಲೇಖನಗಳಿಗೆ ಓದಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಗುಣ ದಕ್ಕಿದೆ. ರೂಪಕದ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಮಧು ವೈ ಎನ್ ಅವರು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಕ್ಷಿಷ್ಟ ಇಂಟರ್ನೆಟ್ ಸಂಗತಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಸರಳವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ಕೃತಿ ಟೆಕ್ನಿಕಲ್ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಂತೆ ಇಲ್ಲವೆನ್ನುವುದೇ ಇದರ ಹೆಗ್ಗಳಿಕೆ. ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ಶುಷ್ಕಗೊಳಿಸದೆ ಚೇತೋಹಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಿರುವುದು ಈ ಕೃತಿಯ ವಿಶೇಷ. ಇದು ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರ್ ಜಗತ್ತು ಅರಿತವರಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅರಿಯದವರಿಗೆ ಸಹಾಯಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿದೆ.
ಕತೆ-ಕವಿತೆ ಬರೆಯುವವರು ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ನೀಡುವ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಬರೆಯಲಾರರು. ಅದು ಸುಸ್ತು ಹೊಡೆಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಆಗೊಮ್ಮೆ ಈಗೊಮ್ಮೆ ಮಧು ಅವರು ಇಂತಹ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಿರಲಿ.
ಹುಡುಕಾಟ, ಯುಗ ಯುಗಗಳ ದಾಟಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕನಸು - ವಿಭಿನ್ನವಾದ ಕಥಾವಸ್ತು/ತಂತ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ನಿರೂಪಣೆಯ ಹೊಸತನದಿಂದ ಇಷ್ಟವಾದ ಕಥೆಗಳು.
‘ಚೀಟ್ ಶೀಟ್’ ನಲ್ಲಿಯ online offline juxtaposition ಕಥೆ ಮುಗಿಯುವ ವೇಳೆಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ dilute ಆಯ್ತೇನೋ ಅನಿಸಿತು. ಆದಾಗ್ಯೂ ಈ ಕಥೆಯ ವಿಡಂಬನೆ/ಹಾಸ್ಯದಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ ಗ್ರಾಮ್ಯ ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆ, ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮವಾದ observation ನನಗೆ ಬಹಳ ಮೆಚ್ಚಿಗೆ ಆಯ್ತು.
I liked the collection. Some of them are very good. I especially liked Mulamu and Nanna Preetiya. There is a new sensibility in these stories. You have a good language too. Some of the themes are so very different from the usual ones. Some stories such as Cheat Sheet need some more clarity. In all, you have the courage to take up new themes. Yours is a refreshing voice
ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ಜೀವನ ಮತ್ತು ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಹಾಗೂ ಕೌಟುಂಬಿಕ ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾನವ ಸಂಬಂಧಗಳ ಸಾಲು ಸಾಲು ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡ ಇಲ್ಲಿಯ ಎಲ್ಲ ಕತೆಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಒರೆಗೆ ಹಚ್ಚಿ ಸಾಣೆ ಹಿಡಿವ ತೆರನಾದ ಬಂಧವಿದೆ. ವಿಡಂಬನಾತ್ಮಕ ಚಿಂತನೆಗಳಿವೆ, ಬದುಕಿನ ಮಹತ್ವದ ತಿರುವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆಕಸ್ಮಿಕವಾಗಿ ಎದುರುಗೊಳ್ಳುವ ವಿಚಿತ್ರ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಿವೆ, ಸರಿ ತಪ್ಪುಗಳನ್ನು ಜೀರ್ಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಚರ್ಚೆಗಳಿವೆ, ಅಲ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಚ್ಚ ಹೊಸ ಲೋಕವೊಂದರ ಅನಾವರಣವಿದೆ.
